Preventative Treatments

In addition to preventative dental visits (cleanings), we offer some other preventative treatments to help patients avoid more serious dental diseases:

Dental Sealants

Some teeth can have fine grooves or pits that are impossible to clean thoroughly with a toothbrush, rendering them susceptible to cavities (especially in young children). Dental sealants are used to fill in these grooves or pits, preventing plaque from becoming entrapped and thus reducing the chances of getting a cavity.

Dental X-rays

We use the latest X-ray technology in the form of digital radiography, which allows us to see very small cavities, which we can then treat preventatively with fluoride toothpaste before they get too large. Digital X-rays also use significantly less radiation than conventional film X-rays. The result of these digital X-rays is a highly detailed image that can easily be enhanced to diagnose dental concerns better and determine the very best treatment. We are also one of the only general dental offices that offer a cone-beam 3D scanner to visualize better the jaw joints for TMJ therapy, bone levels for implant procedures, and roots of a tooth for root canal therapy.

Mouthguards/Nightguards/Therapeutic Bite Splints

Depending on your specific needs, we custom-design mouth guards, night guards, and therapeutic bite splints to protect your teeth and help treat any TMJ problems. Mouth guards are recommended to protect the teeth and jaw during physical activity and contact sports. Night guards are made for patients who clench or grind their teeth at night. Therapeutic bite splints are made for patients who have joint/muscular pain. A thorough evaluation will be performed by the dentist to determine which type of treatment will best suit the patient’s needs.

Gum Treatments

The gums and bone surrounding teeth form the foundation for one’s teeth. When the gum and bone are unhealthy, teeth are not as stable as they could be, causing Periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a chronic condition and needs to be maintained closely to help the patient return to good oral health. Some signs of Periodontal disease include persistent bad breath, gums that bleed easily, loose teeth, and changes in the position or bite of teeth. With proper gum treatments, it may be possible to return gum tissue to a healthy state. This treatment is called Scaling and Root planning. It involves a deep cleaning of the gums surrounding the teeth. If periodontal disease gets too severe, the patient may need gum surgery or extraction of teeth.

Pinhole Gum Treatment

Gum recession is a common problem, causing sensitivity, unsightly gum lines, and tooth mobility. We offer one of the newest gum restoration procedures that has been proven helpful in treating patients with receding gum lines: the Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation. This procedure does not involve incisions or sutures, causes much less discomfort than the traditional gum graft, and has quick and pleasant results for the patient. Ask our dentists for more details!
